The Multi-Platform Consumer Challenge

During my tenure at Garmin International, I was tasked with driving design leadership and user experience architecture for Garmin's flagship mobile application networks, including **Garmin Connect Mobile 3.0 and 4.0** and the acclaimed vivofit jr. mobile app. The ecosystem was incredibly complex, requiring absolute visual and functional alignment across Windows, Android, and iOS environments.

The product requirements demanded mapping massive datasets streaming directly from hardware sensors—including comprehensive metrics for fitness, wellness, golf, marine, and advanced aviation tracking—into streamlined, highly intuitive layouts. This required driving absolute design consistency between our native mobile platforms and deep web application layers, ensuring our users enjoyed a predictable experience across all digital touchpoints.

Architectural Strategy & Executive Execution

To solve these large-scale information architecture hurdles and successfully navigate complex partner requirements, I deployed a rigorous UX strategy centered on technical alignment and clear creative frameworks:

1. Advanced Information Architecture & Cross-Platform Alignment

I engineered highly complex information architecture schematics, interactive user flows, and wireframes to establish strict standards across separate technical groups in the U.S. and Europe. By collaborating closely with Business Analysts and Product Owners during early definition loops, we successfully mapped complex hardware features early and often, avoiding expensive engineering friction down the line.

2. Deep Integration of Empirical User Testing

To validate layout directions at scale, I partnered tightly with the centralized User Testing team. We institutionalized feedback tracking, leading extensive usability evaluations and heuristic reviews of existing applications. This empirical research allowed us to identify critical user friction points across active user paths, fueling iterative application upgrades that consistently maintained high App Store and Google Play customer ratings.

3. High-Stakes Intellectual Property Alignment

I led the comprehensive UX design efforts for Garmin's specialized family wearable product lines, including the major *vivofit jr.* mobile platform redesigns. This role required navigating rigorous design standards and maintaining absolute brand alignment alongside elite external entertainment partners, including **The Walt Disney Company, Marvel, Sony and Lucasfilm**. We successfully met strict timeline constraints to ship high-profile entertainment properties to the global market every year. These included 3 separate movie franchises, adding 3 new properties to the mobile app with brand new maps, storylines and mini-games.

An Operational Legacy of Innovation

Beyond shipping code and designing interfaces, my focus as a UX leader was building long-term capability into the organization. While working in Garmin's Aviation department, I spearheaded specialized onboarding tracks to get non-aviation design talent up to speed on complex aviation safety concepts quickly, established pattern libraries to accelerate engineering delivery, and managed multi-disciplinary groups in an R&D incubator context (*Area 51*) to test early mobile architectures.

This foundation of balancing advanced data systems, strict timeline execution, and world-class brand management directly informs my leadership approach today. It forms the bedrock of how I train modern design and research organizations to scale product value effortlessly, whether through classical pattern systems or cutting-edge AI orchestration.
